The 2018 Continental: Lincoln’s Peerless Flagship
The 2018 Continental
Lincoln’s best seller may be the MKX crossover. And it’s most recognisable vehicle may be the stunningly redesigned Navigator. But the Lincoln Continental will always be the de facto flagship. Over the years, the car has appeared in a number of iconic forms – and some not so iconic ones. But, since 2016, the Continental is back to its roots as an uncompromising full-size luxury sedan, with the good looks and natural charm to match its ambition.
What’s New for 2018?
All models have been upgraded to the 4G LTE WiFi. This allows multiple devices to connect quickly and seamlessly to the internet. It also powers the SYNC 3 and navigation functions. The previous models used a 3G connection, which doesn’t deliver results as immediately as the new connection.
Lincoln has also added some new colour options for the 2018 Continental exterior. Ivory Pearl, Blue Diamond, and Iced Mocha are all new. Rhapsody Blue, which was previously reserved for the Black Label Collection, is the definite standout choice.
Finally, Lincoln has made some changes to its trim levels. Specifically, the Select model has access to more available features than the previous generation, including the remarkable Perfect Position Seats, and the Climate Package which includes Auto High Beams, Heated Rear Seats, and more.
You get the supreme honour of choosing between a 2.7L Twin Turbocharged V6 and 3.0L Twin Turbocharged V6. The latter makes an almost unseemly 400 horsepower and 400 lb/ft torque. Lincoln paired both engines with a seamless 6-speed SelectShift transmission, and either powertrain gives you commanding power and performance.
On the inside, you’ll find an accommodating and luxurious cabin appointed with genuine wood and Bridge of Weir leather. The leather, produced with generations of expertise, is one of the softest seating materials in the industry. Of course, the 2018 Continental features the latest SYNC 3 technology for the integration of music, navigation, and apps. And, to get the most out of your media, you can add the available Revel audio system. Revel engineers carefully placed speakers all over the cabin for studio quality sound.
Two of the most remarkable features in the 2018 Continental are the Perfect Position front seats. No longer restricted to Continental Reserve models, the seats offer heating, cooling, and massage. They even have independent thigh cushions that account for the fact your left leg rests while the other presses the pedals. And, thanks to a flexible suspension system, the seats offer greater support while using less foam, so they don’t hog interior space. Aesthetically, designers took inspiration from the seating options in private jets. This seems particularly apt, given that driving a Continental feels like riding on air.
Is the 2018 Continental a high-powered performance sedan? No. It’s a smooth and refined airship that veritably glides over the road. Lincoln meticulously engineered it to keep your pulse down, not up. If you want to a car to insulate you from the dreary reality of a weekday commute, you want the Lincoln Continental. The opulent styling and capable powertrain are just bonuses. To learn more about the new Continental, please speak to one of our knowledgeable product specialists.
